Monday, July 7. Fair and 82, and the town at the council meeting instead of the lake, which the lake took personally.
Tuesday. Hazy, still, 84. Good drifting weather, wasted by most on obligations.
Wednesday. A proper soaker at midday, three-tenths of an inch, exactly what the gardens asked for and the picnickers did not.
Thursday. Cleared to 80 and breezy; the walleye approved of the chop and said so.
Friday. Warm and heavy, 86, the kind of afternoon that makes a person consider the merits of a screen porch.
Saturday. Eighty-three and cloudless. The lake full, the loons diving, nobody in a hurry.
Sunday. Quiet and gray at the edges, a held breath, 78 — the week going out the way a good week should, without comment.
Verdict. Above average, like the children, and wetter than forecast, like the forecaster.
