The Misquah Pilot-Independent

“Where the coffee’s hot, the lakes are cold, and all the children are above average.” — Serving the Chain since 1903.

The People Who Put It Out

A small paper, run mostly from the front room of the old creamery and the corner table at the Daybreak.

Marvella Tollefson

Editor & Chief Typesetter

Marvella Tollefson has edited the Pilot-Independent since 1989 and set its type by hand for longer than that. She covers the city council, the church suppers, and whatever else will fit.

Tim Brevik

Fishing & Weather Correspondent

Tim Brevik has owned Tim’s Bait & Liquor since 1971 and has filed the fishing report nearly every week since, occasionally from the store, occasionally from the lake, never from a desk.

Eunice Dahlquist

The Klatch & Living

Eunice Dahlquist writes The Klatch from the corner table at the Daybreak Café, where she has held court since the second Reagan administration.

Curt “Sonny” Halvorsen

Sports Editor

Curt “Sonny” Halvorsen covers the Lakeside Pike, the Legion nine, and the summer rec leagues with an enthusiasm the standings do not always reward.

Earl

Population Sign & Press Maintenance

Earl keeps the press running and the highway population sign current, the latter on a schedule of his own devising. He has promised to organize the back room since the Ford administration.

The population sign is maintained on Earl’s schedule, which is known only to Earl.

Pumpkin

Office Cat & Editorial Board

Pumpkin has held the editorial board seat since 2019 and votes by sitting on whichever page she prefers. She is, the masthead notes, above average.
