From the Files: 25/50/75 Years Ago

25 years ago (2001). The school board approved a request from the junior class to sell food at home football games, over one objection that it would “compete with the established concession operation.” The established concession operation was the same junior class, one year older.

50 years ago (1976). The grouse opener drew what this newspaper called “the largest movement of automobiles into the woods in county memory,” and the Sheriff’s office reported two vehicles in ditches, both on the same corner, both within an hour of daylight.

75 years ago (1951). A proposal to hold the school’s homecoming on a Saturday rather than a Friday, to avoid conflicting with a church supper, was defeated by the student council 14–2. The minutes record that the two votes in favor were cast by students whose mothers were organizing the supper.
