The week. Highs in the low sixties, lows in the upper thirties, and a hard frost Monday morning in the low spots east of town — the first of the year that killed anything.
Rain. None. Twenty-eight days. The forecast has carried a chance for nine days running and moved it four times; it presently shows Sunday.
Water. Big Pelican 58 Monday, down four on the week and down twelve since the fair. Turnover, on the thirty-year average, begins the second week of October.
The turn. The equinox falls this afternoon, at about five past one. Daylight and dark are even today and tomorrow the dark is ahead and stays ahead until March.
Verdict. Cold mornings, warm afternoons, no rain, and the best fishing of the year going on in an empty lake. — T.B.
