The week. Highs in the low seventies through Friday and a genuine cold Saturday morning — 41 at the airport, 38 in the low spots east of town. Three people mentioned it at the Daybreak before seven, which is the annual ritual.
Rain. None. Fourteen days now. The lawns have quit and the gardens are being watered by people who said in July they were done watering.
Water. Big Pelican 64 Monday, down three on the week and down six since the fair. That is a fast cool-down and the fish know it before we do.
Ahead. Fair and cool through the weekend; a chance of rain Sunday that the forecast has moved twice and will move again. First frost on the thirty-year average is two weeks out.
Verdict. A good week and a dry one, and dry is starting to be a word people say with an edge on it. — T.B.
