MISQUAH — Post 162 led Hinckley 5–1 through four on Tuesday and lost 6–5, which Sonny will describe once and then leave alone. The visitors got two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh off a bullpen that has been asked to do a great deal this month, and the tying and go-ahead runs both scored on balls that found grass in the exact places grass was available.

Ben Aune had two hits and drove in two, extending a season in which he has driven in a remarkable share of everything this club has scored. Cody Lindholm did not pitch, having thrown seven Friday, and the arms that did pitch gave what they had. “We ran out of Tuesday,” one of them said afterward, which is as good an account of it as any.

That leaves Friday: the season closer, home, 7:15, under the one working light tower and whatever the trucks contribute. It is the last home game for four players who have been in this program since they were fourteen — the group that came up through the Pike rec nine together and has been the spine of these teams for three summers. Their families will be recognized before the first pitch, briefly, because Manager Randy Dolen has strong feelings about ceremonies that run long.

Section seeding will be decided by results elsewhere. Sonny declines to calculate it in print, per standing policy, and notes only that the Legion has had a better summer than the standings will remember and a much better one than the light tower deserves. Come Friday. Bring a sweater for the third-base shade. It is the last one at home.
