MISQUAH — The class-list envelopes were mailed Friday from the district office, per the custom that puts them in mailboxes the second week of August and not one day earlier no matter who asks, and by Saturday morning the fair-entry question at the Daybreak had been fully displaced by the question of who got Mrs. Voss.

Kindergarten enrollment stands at thirty-one, up from twenty-eight last year, which the office attributes to the June arrivals of two years ago finally coming due. That figure splits into two sections and represents, Superintendent Dale Brandt noted, “the first real growth in that grade since I got here,” a fact he mentioned twice and then asked not to be made too much of, in case it means nothing.

At Oakview, Room 6 — whose occupant has spent the summer telling this newspaper the room was ready regardless — received its list Friday and its teacher received the news she had been angling for since May: her room is one of the two kindergarten sections. She was reportedly at the school within the hour, doing something to the reading corner that she declined to describe as rearranging.

Fall sports practice schedules are posted on the gym doors and run in School Notes. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2. Bus routes go out the last week of August. The office reminds families that physicals filed in the spring are still valid and that the ones that are not valid are, in every case, the ones needed first.
