Tuesday, 4:10 p.m. Report of a grass fire along the shoulder of County 6. Out on arrival; extinguished by two passing motorists with a cooler of ice water and a floor mat. The chief asks that the floor mat be noted.

Wednesday, 9:05 a.m. Caller reported a man on a ladder at a business on Birch Street. Determined to be a sign painter, licensed, invited, and finishing a window.

Wednesday, 1:15 p.m. A parent asked whether school pictures could be retaken the same day. They could not. Retakes are October 21. Caller was advised and reports the child is fine about it.

Thursday, 8:12 p.m. Report of a large gathering at the Northern Tap. Determined to be the men’s league banquet, annual, forty-one people. Deputy notes the parking was worse than the gathering.

Friday, 6:50 p.m. Report of a vehicle horn near the county line. Determined to be the football bus escort, which happens six times a year and has never once been called in before.

Saturday, 10:40 a.m. Traffic complaint at the pavilion lot during the cross country meet. Cleared by 11. No citations. The deputy observed the finish and reports he did not cheer.

Saturday, 2:20 p.m. Two callers reported shooting near the Loon Ridge Road. Determined to be lawful hunting on public land. Both callers were new to the area and were told where the plat maps are.

Sunday, 7:30 a.m. Caller reported frost on a vehicle and asked whether the substation had “gotten the same thing.” It had.

Sunday, 5:05 p.m. A goat was reported at large near County 6. Gone on arrival. Fifteenth non-meeting. The carrot on the fence post has again been taken and the deputy again declines to draw a conclusion.

Monday, 7:45 a.m. Report of sprinklers running on Third Avenue. No ordinance applies. Caller was advised of this and said he knew and had wanted it in the log. It is in the log.

Friday, 11:20 a.m. Report of a vehicle parked across two spaces at city hall. Vehicle belonged to a person voting absentee. No action; the deputy notes the lot was otherwise empty and that he would have done the same.

Saturday, 8:05 p.m. Caller asked whether the harvest moon this coming Saturday is “the one that looks bigger.” The desk referred the caller to Stars Over the Chain and confirms that it is.

Monday, 3:35 p.m. A resident brought a wallet found on the pavilion course to the substation. It contained a school lunch card and $4. Returned within the hour to a sophomore who had not yet noticed.

Monday, 6:50 p.m. Report of smoke east of town. Determined to be dust from a field, in the last light, with no wind. Caller apologized. The desk notes that in a year like this one nobody should apologize for that call.
