Wednesday, 7:40 a.m. Report of a vehicle in the ditch on County 6. Driver had swerved for a grouse, which the deputy notes is the earliest such report he has taken in nine years and which is ordinarily a November call about deer. No injuries. The grouse was not located.

Thursday, 3:20 p.m. Caller reported children on the roof of the pavilion. Determined to be two adults retrieving a volleyball. Advised. Ball retrieved.

Friday, 9:05 p.m. Report of a loud noise at the school during the football game. Determined to be the drum line, playing the fight song a second time. No action taken and, per the deputy, none contemplated.

Saturday, 6:14 a.m. Two calls within eleven minutes reporting shooting east of town. Grouse opener. The desk logs these every year on the second Saturday in September and will log them again next year.

Saturday, 11:50 a.m. A resident asked the substation to settle whether blaze orange is required for grouse in Minnesota. It is not. Caller thanked the deputy and said he was going to wear it anyway.

Sunday, 8:30 a.m. Report of four men standing in front of the Daybreak arguing. Determined to be four men standing in front of the Daybreak arguing about a piece of paper taped to the window. No offense. Dispersed when coffee was served.

Sunday, 4:45 p.m. A dog was reported at large on Birch Street wearing a blaze orange collar. Dog located, returned home, and is reported to have had a better weekend than its owner.

Monday, 10:10 a.m. Caller asked whether the city can require the school to move a spelling bee. It cannot. Caller was advised and thanked the deputy, who reports the conversation lasted eleven minutes.

Monday, 7:55 p.m. Report of a vehicle parked at the public landing with its lights on and nobody in it. Owner located at the end of the dock, watching one loon. Advised about the battery.

Wednesday, 5:10 p.m. Report of a grass fire along the shoulder of County 12. Extinguished by the caller with a five-gallon pail before the department arrived, cause believed to be a cigarette from a vehicle. The chief asks that this item be printed in full and notes it is twenty-one days since rain.

Thursday, 8:45 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle driving slowly with a spotlight on a field east of town. Deputy located the vehicle; occupants were counting deer, which is legal, and were advised about the difference between counting and shining, which they already knew.

Saturday, 2:30 p.m. A wallet was turned in at the Northern Tap containing a hunting license and $60. Owner located in nineteen minutes by reading the license aloud.

Monday, 6:40 a.m. Report of frost. Not an incident. The desk records it because the caller was the first to say the word this year and asked to be on the record, and the desk sees no reason to deny her.
