FINAL NOTICE — Comment Deadline. Written comment on the proposed eighteen-lot plat, Hagen property, closes Tuesday, August 18, at 4:30 p.m. at the clerk’s window. Forty-seven comments are on file. The clerk states in advance that 4:30 means 4:30 and that she has heard the pie story. The planning board’s special meeting follows Tuesday, August 25, 7 p.m., city hall.

The Chair — Status, Continued. The oak chair remains at the fire hall. The dock committee has again met from it. The city’s file on the matter now exceeds the chair in mass. No action is contemplated before October, by anyone, deliberately.

The Brewery

Notice of Opening — Saturday. Holt Brewing Co. opens to the public Saturday, August 15, at 2:00 p.m., old Co-op creamery, Second Avenue. Occupancy 62. Street parking on Second is expected to fail early; the lot behind the Birch Street office is open to the public that afternoon by arrangement with this newspaper, which will be at the brewery.

County Fair

Notice to Exhibitors. The fair runs Wednesday, August 19, through Sunday, August 23. Exhibit-hall judging begins Wednesday morning; halls open to the public at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Livestock shows Thursday through Saturday mornings. The giant-pumpkin weigh-in is Saturday at 10 a.m. Exhibit pickup Sunday at 6 p.m. is described by the fair board as not optional.

Church Notices

First Lutheran Church. Sunday worship, 9 a.m., Rev. Karl Lindholm. Sermon: “On Patience,” Part Seven — announced from the pulpit as the last one, “barring developments.” The congregation is advised the reverend has said this before. Ladies’ Aid Thursday at 1; the Aid is thanked, in print and inadequately, for Saturday’s lunch. Memorials for Arvid Paulson to the basement roof fund.

Misquah Methodist Church. Sunday worship, 10:30 a.m., Rev. Tom Eckert. Sermon: “What the Sky Is For.” The reverend notes the timing is not his doing and that he intends to take credit anyway.

Vital Records & Permits

Building permits. Issued: deck replacement, Loon Lake Road; re-roof, 118 Second St.; temporary structure permit, county fairgrounds (shade fly, twelve tables, five days). The office notes the fairgrounds permit was filed early, correctly, and without argument, and would like other applicants to consider what that felt like.

Marriage licenses. One issued this week. The recorder observes that August continues to make up for July and that the couple did not ask about the fifteenth, being the first this month with other plans.

Minutes & Records. The second Hagen drawer was installed Friday and was half full by Monday. The clerk has declined to price a third and asks that this decision be respected.
