Monday, June 29. Fair and 78, wasted almost entirely on errands.
Tuesday. A north breeze that meant nothing and admitted it by noon.
Wednesday. 84 and humid; the lake was the correct answer, and most of you found it.
Thursday. A twenty-minute shower at four o’clock, precisely as the gardens had ordered.
Friday, the Third. Warm, still, and smelling of tomorrow.
The Fourth. 82 and cloudless. The committee will be taking credit for this, and for once we will allow it.
Sunday. Hazy and quiet, the lake flat as a held breath.
Verdict. A week above average, like the children.
