Wed., July 8. Mud Lake Association, Loon Lake landing shelter, 7 p.m. Water levels, the swimming raft, and a word about the moose.

Tue., July 14. Public hearing on the Hagen pasture development, city hall, 7 p.m. Written comment to the clerk, who will read it.

Fridays through July. Legion baseball, Memorial Field, 7 p.m., beneath the one working tower (see Sports).

Sat., Aug. 1. County fair entries close — pumpkins, pies, quilts, and grievances all due by the close of business.

Second week of August. County Fair, Pinedale fairgrounds. The pumpkins, and the families behind them, meet at last.

Wed., July 8. Legion baseball, Post 162 at home, 7:15 p.m., under the working light. Bring a sweater for the third-base shade, which arrives in the fourth inning whether you do or not.

Thu., July 9. Hydrant flushing, dead-end mains off Third — the 1948 lines. Water may take on what the department calls temporary character. Run the cold tap; do not call it an emergency, because Arne Fossum will tell you it isn’t one.

Thu., July 9. Ladies’ Aid, First Lutheran, 1 p.m. Quilting, coffee, and the rhubarb ledger, which Marlys reports is running a surplus for the first time in memory.

Fri., July 10. Story time, Misquah Public Library, 10:30 a.m., with Megan Tollefson presiding. Attendance strong; the sticker budget, she reports, under strain and holding.

Mon., July 13. Band camp opens, Lakeside school, 8 a.m. — Hannah Moe (’14) directing, her first summer at the front of the room. Trombones audible from the water tower by Wednesday, per tradition.

Sat., July 18. Loon Lake Bass Tournament, public landing — fifty boats, blastoff at first light, weigh-in 3 p.m. Tim advises the fish have been briefed and remain uncooperative.

Sat., Aug. 1. County fair entries close, open class, two dollars an entry at the fair office. The giant-pumpkin weigh-in follows the final Saturday, 10 a.m., on a scale recertified at everybody’s request.
