Funeral Notice. Services for Lorraine Vekved, 90, longtime organist of First Lutheran, will be held at the church Friday at 11 a.m., the Rev. Karl Lindholm officiating, with visitation the evening prior. The congregation she accompanied for fifty-one years is asked, in lieu of flowers, to consider the organ fund, and, on Friday, to sing.

Funeral Notice. A memorial gathering for Gordon “Gordy” Lindstrom, 86, will be held at the Legion hall Saturday afternoon, with stories encouraged and tools, per the family’s wishes, “left at home for once.” All who he ever fixed something for — which is, the family notes, “the whole room” — are welcome.

Notice of Public Hearing. The Misquah Planning Commission will hear a proposed eighteen-lot residential development on the Hagen pasture south of town on July 14 at 7 p.m. at the city hall. The full plat is on file with the clerk. Written comment may be left with Clerk Donna Skoglund before the hearing; she will read all of it, as she reads everything.

City Council — Regular Meeting, July 7, 7 p.m. Agenda: minutes; treasurer’s report; referral of the Hagen-pasture development to public hearing; the report, if any, of the subcommittee charged with staffing the stop-sign subcommittee; the Fourth of July road closure; and such other business as shall arise, which it reliably does.

Road Closure. Main Street will close Saturday, July 4, from 8:30 a.m. to noon for the parade. The boat parade will form off the Loon Lake landing at noon. There is no posted detour, there being no other street, a fact the city has stopped apologizing for.

Library. Summer reading continues through August; new readers may still enroll. Ruth Aune reminds patrons that the program “is not a race,” a reminder she issues weekly and that one fourth-grader weekly declines to hear.

Cemetery Association. The annual call for grounds-upkeep volunteers goes out ahead of the Fourth. Bring gloves and a trimmer; the association brings the coffee and, for the newcomers, the history of who is buried where, which is half the reason to come.
