Tuesday, June 23, 2026 · June 23 Edition · the week and the Fourth ahead
Now – August. Summer Reading at the Misquah Public Library. Climb the tiers. Do not, Ruth Aune asks, clear them all before the Fourth. (One reader will. You know who.)
Tuesday. Ladies’ Aid, First Lutheran, 7 p.m. New members welcome; the bazaar quilt is, as ever and on schedule, slightly behind.
Wednesday. Lakeside summer softball at home, 6 p.m. Bring a chair, an opinion on the orange-slice budget, and patience for eleven-year-olds in the heat.
Thursday. Mud Lake Association meeting, back room of the Daybreak, 7 p.m. “Expected attendance: two,” per President Knutson, “which is the correct number and we like it.”
Friday. Services for Lorraine Vekved, First Lutheran, 11 a.m. (see Public Notices). The town’s organist for fifty-one years; the town will sing.
Friday. Post 162 at home vs. Pine City, first pitch at dusk, under — in all likelihood — the same two light towers.
Saturday. Memorial gathering for Gordy Lindstrom, Legion hall, afternoon (see Public Notices). Stories encouraged; tools, per the family, left at home.
Sunday. Worship as usual; First Lutheran 9 & 10:30, First Methodist 9:30. Lemonade on both lawns, a friendly and closely scored competition.
Saturday, July 4 — Independence Day. Land parade north on Main, lineup 9 a.m. Boat parade off the Loon Lake landing, noon. Potluck and program in the park, 5 p.m. Fireworks over Big Pelican at dusk — no-wake requested, for the chicks.
Second week of August. County Fair. Entry books out soon. The pumpkins, two families confirm, are already coming along, separately, in secret, and under guard.
