Notice of Comment Deadline. Written comment on the proposed eighteen-lot plat, Hagen property, closes Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the close of the clerk’s window, ahead of the planning board’s special meeting Tuesday, August 25, at 7 p.m., city hall. Comments to date: thirty-eight, several with citations, one with a bibliography. The clerk requests that late arrivals not test whether the window’s close resembles the fair’s.

The Chair — Status, Continued. The oak chair remains at the fire hall, the operational tempo having de-elevated without producing a return. The dock committee, which meets at the fire hall, is reported to have conducted its August session from the chair and to have praised its minutes as “unusually well-supported.” The city requests that future minutes note whose chair it is. The fire hall has taken the request under advisement, from the chair.

Burn Ban — Lifted. The county’s open-burning restriction is rescinded as of Friday, conditions having improved. Ordinary fire sense resumes. Chief Sundberg’s revised guidance, offered in the same economy as the original: “fine, but mind it.”

The Brewery

Notice of Opening. Holt Brewing Co. — name of establishment as licensed; name on the sign a separate matter entirely — opens to the public Saturday, August 15, at 2:00 p.m., old Co-op creamery, Second Avenue. Occupancy posted at 62. The covered sign will be uncovered at opening. The county has inspected everything except the knot.

Church Notices

First Lutheran Church. Sunday worship, 9 a.m., Rev. Karl Lindholm. Sermon: “On Patience,” Part Six, which the reverend has subtitled “Nearly There,” to open speculation he declines to resolve. Ladies’ Aid Thursday at 1; the fair quilts enter final inspection. The basement roof fund proceeds through year fourteen at the fund’s customary pace, which is the sermon’s point, which is the reverend’s point.

Misquah Methodist Church. Sunday worship, 10:30 a.m., Rev. Tom Eckert. Sermon: “Ordinary Light.” The reverend notes the congregation applauded a plain sunset this week and finds the instinct “theologically sound.” The lot lines remain very straight.

Vital Records & Permits

Building permits. Issued: garage re-side, Loon Lake Road; window replacement, 118 Second St.; signage — uncovering of existing installed sign, Second Avenue, effective August 15 (fee waived; the office reasons the sign was permitted covered and is merely completing itself).

Marriage licenses. Two issued this week, August delivering on the recorder’s forecast. The recorder notes, for the file, that both couples asked about the fifteenth and were advised the whole town has the same idea.

Minutes & Records. The Hagen file stands one folder from a second drawer. Clerk Skoglund has priced the drawer. The smoke-advisory folder, filed vertically so it would know it was temporary, has been retired flat, its point made.
