Selected from the week’s calls to the Sheriff’s northern substation and the Misquah first responders. Names are withheld where charges were not filed, which over a holiday weekend is a mercy to several.

Thursday. Report of a moose on the County 6 bridge, 7:40 a.m., halting traffic in both directions, which on County 6 means two cars. Animal unbothered. Drivers advised to wait, which they were already doing, having little choice and an excellent view (see News).

Friday. Noise complaint, fireworks, the night before the night before. Party advised that the fireworks were scheduled for Saturday. Party advised that they were aware of this, and could not wait, and were sorry — and did it again Saturday regardless.

Saturday. Multiple reports of fireworks over Big Pelican, 10 p.m. These were the fireworks. No action taken, the fireworks being the entire point.

Saturday. A pontoon reported adrift after the boat parade proved to be anchored, the owner having simply gone for a swim. Owner thanked the caller and the responders and offered them a beer, which was, with regret, declined on duty.

Sunday. Lost-and-found, the park, after the picnic: one cooler (red), one child’s sandal (left foot, small), and one 9×13 pan, washed, no name on the bottom — which its owner will nonetheless recognize on sight and reclaim, as its owner always does.

Sunday. Report of a bear at the Daybreak dumpster, 5:50 a.m. Bear gone on arrival. The new self-closing latch on the Northern Tap’s cooler door is reported to be holding, against all local precedent.
