The Roof Funds Enter Year Fifteen Today, Which Nobody Is Marking
Three separate roof funds — First Lutheran’s basement, the pavilion, and the rec warming house — pass fourteen years today. One of them has a beer attached to it now.
MISQUAH — The First Lutheran basement roof fund, the Lakeside pavilion roof fund and the rec warming-house roof fund all began in September 2012, within eleven days of each other, and all three enter their fifteenth year today.
Two of them have not moved appreciably in two years. The third has, on account of Mud Lake Brewing Co., which pledged a dollar a pint on Year Fourteen Stout in August and has sent $386 to the church since. Rev. Lindholm reports the fund has taken in more since August 15 than in all of 2019 and 2020 combined, and that he has stopped doing arithmetic about it out loud.
The pavilion committee has inquired about a beer. The warming-house committee has inquired about a beer. Jonas Holt, who has four taps and three roofs, has said publicly that he can see where this goes and privately that he is not naming a beer after a warming house.
None of the three funds will be marking the anniversary. The pavilion committee meets in October and has the roof at the bottom of an agenda that has had the roof at the bottom of it since 2019.
