MISQUAH — Post 162 is above .500 in the back half of July, a sentence that has not been printable in this newspaper since 2018 and is therefore being printed with some ceremony.

The week that did it: a 6–3 win at home Wednesday, in which Cody Lindholm went seven strong innings under the working light and — for once, and the dugout noticed — was given runs to work with while he did it; and a road win Saturday that the club ground out late, the kind of game May’s version of this team lost politely and July’s version does not. The lineup that spent the season’s first month stranding runners has fully arrived: four players are hitting over .300 for the month, and the manager, asked to account for the turnaround, offered the complete explanation of “ballplayers eventually play ball.”

Lindholm’s Wednesday start was the staff ace at his midsummer best — economical, unbothered, and finished in time for the trucks along the outfield fence to need their headlights for only the final out. The one working tower did what it does; the shadowed half of the outfield did what it does; and a visiting outfielder’s late misplay in the dark corner was scored, per the home book, “E-ambush.” The estimate to light the next tower remains $7,400. The meat raffle remains the plan. The club remains, on this subject, serene.

Attendance Wednesday ran above its faithful forty, swelled by what several bleacher regulars identified as hearing-recovery traffic — townspeople who had spent Tuesday night at the city hall and wanted, in the words of one, “to watch an argument with an umpire in it, so it ends.” The club is glad to provide the service.

Three weeks remain in the season. The math is simple and the club is refusing to discuss it, on the grounds — stated by the manager, endorsed by the bench, and enforced with a look — that the baseball gods are always listening. Post 162 plays at home again Wednesday, 7:15, under the light. Bring the sweater. The third-base shade keeps its schedule even when the standings don’t.
