The photograph of the turtle on County 9 in last week’s edition showed the turtle facing east. It was facing west. The paint, the policy, and the turtle are otherwise as reported. The turtle has not commented.
Also, Eunice Dahlquist wishes it amplified that the walnuts are not optional. This was implied last week and is now explicit. Corrections remain rare, and cheerfully entertained.
From the Files: 25/50/75 Years Ago
25 years ago (2001). The council debated replacing the city hall’s folding chairs with “something permanent.” The motion was tabled pending study. The study is believed ongoing.
50 years ago (1976). Sweet corn arrived July 19 — the earliest on record, then and now. The Pilot-Independent called it “a mark for the ages,” and for once the ages agreed.
75 years ago (1951). Haze from fires in Canada dimmed the sun for three days. The fire-tower watchman logged “nothing ours” each evening and was thanked by the council for his economy.
