Corrections & Amplifications

Two corrections this week, one a matter of wording and one a matter of fairness.

School calendar authority. In our lead school story, this newspaper described Lakeside’s pre–Labor Day opening as occurring under a temporary state waiver. More precisely, the opening is permitted by a temporary state-law exception available this school year and next. The distinction matters, and the imprecision was ours.

The State Fair delegation. Our September 1 edition listed Owen Bergstrom’s age as 18 in the delegation box and as a graduating senior elsewhere. Both are accurate; the confusion is ours for printing them a page apart without a word of explanation. This is his final year of 4-H eligibility.

Corrections are printed in this space whenever we have them, which is more often than we would like and less often than we deserve. Errors may be reported at the office, by telephone, or in the doorway of the Daybreak, which is where three of the four came from this week.

Accuracy matters here. If you see something that needs correcting, send it to the newsroom. Material corrections are noted online and in the next print edition.
