Public Notices

Hagen Pasture — Status. The Planning Commission, having held its public hearing July 14, has taken the proposed eighteen-lot development under advisement. A special meeting to issue its recommendation will be held in late August; the date will be posted at the clerk’s window when set. Written comment remains open until fourteen days before that meeting, addressed to Clerk Skoglund, who reports the file has been promoted to its own drawer.

County Fair — Final Notice. Open-class entries close Saturday, August 1, at the fair office; extended hours that day, 8 a.m. to noon. Two dollars an entry. Descriptions should describe the item, not defend it. Quilts folded, in a clean pillowcase, per the instruction sheet, which exists for a reason the quilt community remembers.

Returned Property. The folding chairs loaned to the city hall by the fire hall on the evening of July 14 have been returned, counted, and — per the fire chief — “mostly ours.” The one disputed chair will summer at the city hall and winter at the fire hall, by agreement, like a lake cabin.

Church Notices

First Lutheran Church. Sunday worship, 9 a.m., Rev. Karl Lindholm. Sermon: “On Patience,” Part Four. The reverend acknowledges the running length of the series and submits that the subject is demonstrating itself. Ladies’ Aid Thursday at 1.

Misquah Methodist Church. Sunday worship, 10:30 a.m., Rev. Tom Eckert. Sermon: “The Wide Gate,” which the reverend wishes noted is a scriptural reference and not, as the bulletin committee suggested, a comment on the newly generous parking lot.

Vital Records & Permits

Building permits. Sign, projecting, Second Avenue — installed, covered, and the subject of more inquiries than the office has fielded about any sign in its history; the office refers all questions to the canvas. Fence gate widening, rural Misquah — approved; purpose listed as “general maintenance,” width listed as fourteen inches, and the office makes no further comment in weigh-in season.

Marriage licenses. None issued this week. The office notes that August, historically, makes up for July.

Minutes. Minutes of the July 14 public hearing run to nineteen pages and stand available at the clerk’s window. Clerk Skoglund reports the municipal record now occupies two drawers, and has stopped asking the council to slow down, “as it only encourages them.”
