Obituaries in This Edition

There are no obituaries to report this week, and the Pilot-Independent records the fact, as it always does, with frank relief. Another week has passed on the Chain with no one lost from it — two such weeks now since Esther Nordby’s notebooks went to the library, where, we can report, they have their shelf.

The absence of an obituary is not the absence of an occasion. It is simply the happiest kind of slow news, and this newspaper is glad, this week, to have nothing to set in type on this page but the standing reminder below: the names we have carried are kept, together, where they belong.
