Selected from the week’s calls to the Sheriff’s northern substation and the Misquah first responders. Names are withheld where charges were not filed, which this week is everyone, including the turtle.

Tuesday. Parking overflow reported at the city hall, all streets adjacent, 6:40 p.m. Deputy assessed the situation, determined the cause to be civic engagement, and directed traffic instead of citing it. All vehicles departed by ten, several in better moods than they arrived.

Wednesday. A caller on Third Street reported “singing” from the direction of the Daybreak at approximately 10:15 a.m. Deputy confirmed a birthday in progress and took no action beyond accepting a slice, which the log records as “community relations.”

Wednesday. The band camp noise complainant of two weeks ago called to report improvement, and wished the record to reflect that he is fair. The record so reflects. He further identified the melody, unprompted, which the desk considers corroborating.

Thursday. A resident reported four zucchini left on her porch overnight by parties unknown. Deputy explained the seasonal nature of the offense and the impossibility of a lineup. Resident kept the zucchini, as the law and the etiquette both provide.

Friday. Traffic control, County 9, eleven minutes — the turtle (see News). One cone deployed. The county’s new policy was read aloud to the turtle by a crew member, “for the record.” The turtle did not object.

Saturday. Celebratory horn-sounding at the Loon Lake landing following the tournament weigh-in, 3:20 p.m. Deputy determined the horns belonged to the second-place boat, saluting the first, and closed the call as “sportsmanship, audible.”

Sunday. Lost-and-found, the landing: one tackle box, one net, one good rod (see Classifieds), and one lawn chair, which the desk notes is the third chair to enter the record this month, and declines to speculate.
