Wednesday. Lakeside summer softball at home, 6 p.m. The Vekved triplets, presumably, batting. Bring a chair and an opinion about the orange-slice budget.

Thursday – Sunday. Martinez taco truck, Loon Lake landing, lunch and supper, “or until we sell out, which keeps being sooner than we plan.”

Thursday. Ladies’ Aid quilting circle, First Lutheran, 1 p.m. New hands welcome; the quilt is for the fall bazaar and is, as ever, slightly behind.

Friday, July 3. Movie in the Park opens: “The Great Outdoors,” city park, at dusk. Bring a blanket and a chair. Mosquitoes provided at no charge.

Saturday, July 4 — Independence Day. Land parade north on Main, lineup 9 a.m. Boat parade forms off the Loon Lake landing, noon. Potluck and program in the city park, 5 p.m. Fireworks over Big Pelican at dusk — no-wake requested for the loon chicks and the dignity of the thing.

Sunday, July 5. Worship as usual; First Lutheran 9 & 10:30, First Methodist 9:30. Lemonade on both lawns, a friendly and closely observed competition.

Tuesday, July 7. City Council, 7 p.m., city hall — the Hagen development, the brewery license, and the stop sign, which returns. Lions Club bingo follows at the Legion hall, indoors, “probably for a reason.”

Wednesday, July 8. Mud Lake Association meeting, back room of the Daybreak, 7 p.m. “Expected attendance: two,” per President Knutson, “which is plenty.”

Second week of August. County Fair. Entry books are out now; entries close August 1. The pumpkins, the Bjornstads and the Aakres confirm, are coming along, separately, and in secret.
