Selected from the week’s calls to the Sheriff’s northern substation and the Misquah first responders. Names withheld where charges were not filed, which is nearly always.

Monday. Welfare check, Birch Street, on an elderly resident not seen for two days. Deputy found the subject in good health and mild irritation, having simply “not felt like being seen.” Matter closed with a wave.

Tuesday. Report of a black bear inside the walk-in cooler at the Northern Tap, 9:40 p.m. Subject departed by the same propped door, having eaten the imported cheese and nothing else (see News).

Tuesday. Noise complaint, the park pad, regarding a thunderstorm interrupting outdoor bingo. Caller advised the Sheriff has no jurisdiction over weather. Caller was disappointed.

Wednesday. Medical assist, Main Street, one adult male, abrasions to both knees and elbows. Subject declined transport and, more firmly, advice. Loose gravel cited.

Thursday. Traffic complaint, Loon Lake landing: the taco-truck line reported to be blocking the boat ramp. Responding deputy confirmed the obstruction, sampled it, and took no action.

Friday. Two separate reports of fireworks out toward Bass Lake. Parties separately advised that the Fourth is Saturday; parties separately advised they were “just testing.”

Saturday. Lost property, Loon Lake landing: one trolling motor, off the dock. The same dock. Possibly the same motor.

Saturday. Disturbance, Daybreak parking lot, between two parties over a space that, on review, comfortably fits four cars. Resolved without incident and with some embarrassment.

Sunday. Report of two sandhill cranes “trespassing” on the Hagen pasture. Cranes determined to hold the right of way, the matter being older than the fence.
