Our View: Let the Opener Be What It Is

The opener is not simply a Saturday on the calendar. It is the one day each year when Misquah’s habits become official: early coffee, cold hands, polite lies, and the firm belief that the next bay over is where the fish are.

We urge patience at the landing, mercy toward trailer backing, and restraint in measuring fish by memory. A person can be wrong about a walleye and still be a good neighbor.

The city should paint the lines, Tim should keep the coffee on, and the rest of us should remember that tradition is not improved by hurrying it.
