Volleyball Splits Its Scrimmage, and Cross Country Runs Eleven at Sandstone

A Saturday scrimmage that told the coach three things, and an invitational where the Pike runners finished in the middle and one of them finished in front.

MISQUAH — Volleyball scrimmaged at home Saturday morning against Braham and Cambridge, winning three sets and losing three, which the coach called “exactly the information I wanted and none of the information I hoped for.” Twenty-two are out across two levels. The varsity opens at Braham Thursday.

Cross country ran eleven at the Sandstone Invitational Thursday. The boys finished seventh of eleven teams and the girls did not field a full scoring team, which is a recruiting problem the coach has been describing to this newspaper since 2023.

The exception, and it is a real one: freshman Kyliegh Braaten finished eleventh overall out of ninety-four in her first high school race, and did it, per two witnesses, without appearing to enjoy any part of it. Asked about the race, Braaten said the course was hilly and that she does not want to talk about her time yet.

The home meet is on the pavilion course September 19. The hill is where it has always been.
