The Ladder Is Gone and Nobody Is Going to Make a Thing of It
It leaned against the brewery for thirty-eight days, was advertised four times in these classifieds, and was removed Saturday morning by the man who left it there, who did not know it had become a subject.
MISQUAH — The aluminum extension ladder that has stood against the east wall of Mud Lake Brewing Co. since August 15 was taken away Saturday at about nine in the morning by a sign painter from Hinckley, who put it in his truck and drove off.
He was in town to letter a window on Birch Street. He recognized the ladder as his own from the parking lot. He had left it on the fifteenth after uncovering the brewery sign, in a crowd of three hundred people, and had gone home without it, and had not missed it because he owns four.
Informed that the ladder had been advertised in this newspaper four separate times, that the Holts had disclaimed it in print, and that a classified in the September 15 edition had described it as having been there for one month and unclaimed, he said he did not take the paper, being from Hinckley.
Annika Holt said the wall looks bare. Jonas Holt said he had stopped seeing it around week two. Four separate people have mentioned its absence to this newspaper since Saturday, one of them with what the reporter would describe as real feeling.
The sign painter was paid for the window on Birch Street and left town before noon.
This newspaper is aware that thirty-eight days of a ladder is not news. We ran the classified four times because somebody kept paying for it, and we are recording its departure here because eleven people have asked about it since Saturday, which is more than have asked about the school board seat.
