MISQUAH — Thirty-one pies went to the concession stand Friday night and thirty-one pies were sold by 8:40, which was four minutes into the second half’s back half and roughly two hours earlier than the class advisor had planned for.

They went at three dollars a slice and six dollars for two. The juniors cleared $412 on pie alone, which is the single best fundraising night the class has had, and which the advisor attributes to the sign on the gym door, the cold, and “the fact that people will buy a slice of pie from a sixteen-year-old they have known since she was born.”

Fourteen households baked. Apple went first. Two rhubarb pies, which one of the bakers had argued in advance were out of season and would not sell, went third and fourth.

The class will do it again at homecoming on the twenty-fifth and has already been told by four people that thirty-one will not be enough. The advisor has put in for forty and reports that this number came from a show of hands and not from arithmetic.
