To the Editor:

Five girls ran Saturday and I have been thanked about it eleven times, which is eleven more times than I was thanked in the three years I was asking, and I want to be gracious about that and then say the practical thing.

Five is a team and five is also the exact minimum. One case of the flu in October and I am back to four and we do not score, and everything those girls did on Saturday goes back to being three girls running a race that does not count. Seven is a team that survives a Tuesday. I need two more.

I also want to say something about Leah Peltola, which is that she did not send me her worst two players. I want that in the paper. She sent me two girls who play, and she is nine deep on Saturdays now because of it, and she has not once said that to me directly and has said it twice in this newspaper, which is how it goes around here.

Braaten finished sixth and is unhappy about her time. I would like the record to show I have told her that this is a good problem and that she does not believe me.

Braham is Saturday at ten. The hill at the pavilion course is where it has always been and so is the sign-up sheet at the office.

One correction to your paper while I have the pen: the sign-up sheet asked for six, not four, and has since the first week of September. The secretary tells me she has already spoken to you about it.
