MISQUAH — Sunday school began Sunday at both churches. First Lutheran opened with every grade staffed, which the education committee reports has not happened since 2017 and which it attributes to asking people individually instead of announcing a need from the front.

“We stopped saying ‘we need teachers’ and started saying ‘we need you, for third grade, from nine to nine-forty,’” committee chair Bergum said. “Seven people said yes who had said no to the other sentence for four years.”

Enrollment stands at forty-one children across six classes, up from thirty-four last year. The Methodist church resumed its 8 a.m. service the same morning, which Rev. Tom Eckert notes exists for people who have already been up three hours and who he says are the most attentive congregation he preaches to all week.

Rev. Karl Lindholm delivered “On Patience,” Part Twelve, at First Lutheran on Sunday. He has been asked about the length of the series by this newspaper on four occasions since July and has answered once, in August, when he said the series will end when the subject does. Asked again Sunday, he said he had already given this newspaper an answer and did not see a reason to improve on it.

The “Chain of Lakes” quilt, back from the State Fair, hangs in the First Lutheran basement through October. The basement roof fund, in its fifteenth year, has received $412 from the brewery’s dollar-a-pint pledge since August 15.

The Methodist church also begins its fall confirmation class Wednesday with six students, the largest group in four years, and Eckert reports that two of the six asked to be in it rather than being told, which he says he would like recorded somewhere permanent, and which is now recorded here.
